The Amateur Riders' Club established in the year 1942,is one of the oldest and largest private civilian riding clubs in India. Situated in the heart of Mumbai , At the RWITC race course,Mahalaxmi.It provides riding throughout the year and imparts riding lessons to children & adults-young and old.Potential riders have access to graduate show Show Jumping, dressage,Polo Tent pegging.
Amateur Riders' Club, as it is popularly known, has separate riding arenas for beginners,dressage,jumping arena, polo and lunging located in the centre of race course.Riding is held in the mornings and evenings,except on race days.The campus includes the club house & stables for 100 horses,both club and private.We have a resident veterinarian, farrier and accommodation for grooms is also provided.
The Amateur Riders' Club was founded in 1942 comprising of persons who owned horses that were stabled at the Governor's bodyguards where the Regional Transport Office is presently situated at Tardeo. The Governor's bodyguard stabled as many as 75 horses which included some of the horses owned by members of the Amateur Riders' Club.
Held in March / April, every year this is the main event of the season.Club members and competitors from all over the world take part in Dressage, Show Jumping, Mounted Sports & Tent Pegging competitions. Polo tournaments are held & club teams , the Indian Army , Navy and Civilian teams from other Equestrian Centers in India of varying handicaps play against each other .
Polo is played regularly from November to May, and Arena Polo is played during months, weather permitting!
Gymkhana races :
In may each year , after the main racing season at RWITC Race Cource, the club conducts 7 Gymkhana races where Club members & Amateur riders,and horses from in and around Mumbai , Matheran and even banglore Participate. The Races are conducted under the rules of the RWITC.
Outrides to various places are frequently organised. Every Year , ARC memebrs go to INS Hamla, Marve & the National Defence Academy,Pune for outrides .
The Monsoon :
The Monsoon months are used to rest overworked horses , and the new horses trained Informal Mounted sports are conducted on alternate weekends.
